Ghost Italy Classic: treeless monoflap saddle with forward flap
The Ghost Italy Classic monoflap is a treeless saddle (treeless) in the English General Purpose style, featuring a very forward flap and a single-flap construction. Its design leaves room for the knee when the rider rides with shorter stirrups and adopts a more flexed leg position.
Handcrafted in Italy, it is a model to consider for everyday arena work and use that includes small amateur jumps, after verifying that the configuration is suitable for the horse, rider, and intended activity.
What activities is the Ghost Italy Classic suitable for?
The distinctive feature of the Italy is its particularly forward flap, designed to support a more flexed leg position than the one adopted with a more vertical flap.
This design makes the Italy a model to consider for arena work and for riders who also practice small amateur jumps. Suitability for a specific jumping activity must nevertheless be assessed in relation to the horse-rider combination, the intended type of work, and the saddle configuration: the flap profile alone is not sufficient to establish it.
If you primarily alternate flatwork, trail riding, and trekking, compare the Italy with the Ghost Torino Classic, which has a more versatile all-purpose design.
If, instead, you are looking for a model specifically designed for dressage and a more extended leg position, discover the Ghost Lipica Classic.
What distinguishes the monoflap version?
The Italy Classic monoflap has a single flap, rather than a double-flap construction. It retains the characteristic forward profile of the Italy model and provides a different feeling of leg contact compared with the double-flap version.
The seat has a narrow twist, a feature to assess together with seat size, the rider’s proportions, and the position of the leg supports. The seated feeling remains individual: a narrow twist does not guarantee the same comfort for every rider.
How are the leg supports adjusted?
The Ghost Italy Classic has leg supports positioned under the flap and repositionable with Velcro.
The ability to change their position makes it possible to assess the most appropriate reference point according to the rider’s proportions, seat size, and stirrup length.
The supports should follow the leg position without forcing it to maintain an unnatural angle.
What is the optional hidden pommel for?
The Ghost Italy Classic can be configured with an optional hidden pommel, which preserves the appearance of a traditional English saddle.
It is an option to consider when the intended use includes small amateur jumps, together with the overall saddle configuration and its suitability for the horse-rider combination.
The hidden pommel is not standard equipment: it must be selected from the options available for the chosen configuration.
How do you choose panels and inserts for the horse?
The Italy uses a Ghost treeless structure with interchangeable and positionable panels. Depending on the available configuration, you can consider panels of different thicknesses and any inserts needed to refine the bearing surface and the saddle’s balance on the individual horse.
The choice must take into account the horse’s back conformation, withers, the available weight-bearing surface length, the girthing system, and the saddle’s overall balance.
A treeless saddle is not automatically suitable for every horse. Before use, the chosen configuration must be checked, including the panels’ bearing and the clearance along the spine, also with the rider in the saddle.
It is not possible to define a correct combination of panels and inserts based solely on the horse’s breed or wither height.
What seat sizes are available?
The Ghost Italy Classic monoflap is available in the following sizes:
- Small: 16,5″ / 42 cm
- Large: 18″ / 46 cm
- Child: 16″ / 40 cm
Seat size should be selected by considering the rider’s proportions and checking that it allows an appropriate leg position in relation to the forward flap and supports.
The weight indicated for the model is 4.4 kg. Before ordering, check the characteristics and options of the selected configuration in the configurator.
How can you customize the Ghost Italy Classic?
The Italy Classic is a configurable handcrafted saddle. You can choose seat size, materials, colors, and finishes from the options available for the model.
You can also consider the optional hidden pommel and the panel configuration according to the intended use and the characteristics of the horse-rider combination.
To choose the aesthetic combination, consult the EquiSaddle guide to colors and textures.
Customization of materials and finishes is separate from the technical verification of the configuration: an aesthetic combination can be chosen according to your preferences, while the base, panels, and any inserts must be assessed in relation to the horse.
