Ghost Saddles

The Ghost saddles for riding represent the most advanced evolution of the flexible tree saddle. Handcrafted in Italy and inspired by the international motto “the saddle that isn’t there,” they offer the rider a direct and natural contact, and the horse total freedom of movement while respecting its biomechanics.

Born from the artisanal vision of Camillo Cavallin, the Ghost saddles stand out for their lightweight, flexible, and modular structure: the seat, flaps, panels, and blocks are interchangeable and customizable over time, following the changes of the horse-rider pair.

Each Ghost saddle is made with selected European leathers and certified technical materials, through ethical, sustainable, and fully traceable processes. The result is a durable, comfortable saddle that respects the horse.

Unique features of Ghost saddles

The Ghost are treeless saddles with 4 degrees of flexibility (cavalry/bareback, flex, semiflex, and standard): they combine rigid and flexible elements to maximize support and freedom.

  • Total customization: colors, materials, and modular configurations make each Ghost truly unique.
  • Flexible cantle and side attachments: the Ghost system features a flexible frame with side attachments: stirrups and straps do not pass over the spine, eliminating pressure points and allowing for freer movement of the shoulders.
  • Moderately tight twist seat: the Ghost seat has a rather tight twist, more compact compared to many treeless options, making it more comfortable for the hip and promoting a position closer to the horse (close contact). Adjustable multilayer panels: applied via velcro, the lower panels are adjustable in thickness, position, and width of the channel. This configuration allows for excellent spinal clearance, freedom of the shoulders, and better weight distribution.
  • Self-adjusting rigging (Sliding V): improves saddle stability and automatically distributes girth pressure better.
  • Ergonomic thigh blocks: available in various sizes, positionable according to preference.
  • Two stirrup positions: to optimize balance and posture depending on the discipline.
  • Composite materials and lightweight: the base incorporates composite materials such as:
    • Synthetic: micropell (rigid), micronappa (soft synthetic), and lorica (synthetic suede)
    • Genuine leather: regular nubuck, oiled nubuck, nappa (genuine nappa leather), suede, julia leather (rather thick and durable leather unlike nappa which is soft), Pegaso flower leather (soft printed with an orange peel pattern).
  • For the internal reinforcements, we find nylon/polyurethane, carbon fiber, and steel for the rings, for example, of the stirrup. Additionally, rubber/aggregate fillers are used for the body (inside the flap), velcro (for the attachments of the cushions and the seat). The base is made of “strong” material and polyurethane.

The Ghost riding experience

It is the ideal choice for:

  • situations where the welfare of the horse is the priority: freedom of movement, correct weight distribution, and total spinal clearance
  • horses with “difficult conformations”, perfect for short backs, pronounced withers, wide shoulders, or horses that cannot tolerate a rigid saddle;
  • riders looking for a narrow and comfortable seat, also useful in the presence of hip issues;
  • those who ride multiple horses and need a saddle that can adapt to different backs;
  • those who want a handcrafted, customizable, and fully modular product.

Philosophy and origins of the Ghost Saddle brand

The Ghost brand has its roots in the historic DAG, Bora, and Torsion, the first Italian projects that introduced the concept of a flexible saddle in the 1980s and 1990s.

Today, that know-how merges with modern technical materials, advanced ergonomic study, and a modular design that allows for:

  • direct connection with the horse thanks to the balanced seat and narrow twist;
  • extended comfort, ideal even for long distances;
  • constant adaptability, following the muscular evolution of the back over time;
  • versatility on difficult backs, even for horses with non-standard conformation or sensitivity to traditional rigidity
