Piuma Endurance Saddle
The Purosangue Piuma Naked represents the very best of Italian equestrian craftsmanship, developed for endurance riding and high-level equestrian touring. This technical saddle is built on a 14.5-inch (37 cm) rigid tree, combining exceptional lightness with structural stability.
Specifically designed for the seated canter used in endurance riding, the Purosangue range is ideal for Arabian and Thoroughbred horses, including horses with prominent withers. It is not recommended for horses with a rounder conformation.
Unlike traditional endurance saddles, the Purosangue system is designed to minimise interference between the rider's position and the horse's movement through a series of specific technical innovations:
- Direct contact and stability: the attachment points are connected in a way that stabilises the rider's position without creating rigid pressure points against the horse's ribcage. This allows the tree to accommodate the natural flexion of the horse's back, even during prolonged canter work.
- Minimal bulk: the saddle is completely flapless. The design is stripped back to the essentials to achieve the Piuma's exceptional weight of just 2.6 kg — including the fenders — while allowing the rider's leg to remain in direct contact with the horse's sides.
- Low-profile position: the design helps lower the combined centre of gravity of horse and rider while maximising feel and sensitivity.
- Hybrid-saddle system: the supporting structure acts as an active shock-absorbing system, working in harmony with the horse's conformation.
- Optimised leg contact: the absence of unnecessary padding beneath the seat allows the rider's aids to be applied immediately and precisely, without a disconnected or "floating" feel.
Breathability and the latest Purosangue Piuma seat technology
The rigid shell is designed with an open spinal channel, allowing continuous airflow while keeping pressure off the horse's spine. For the rider, the seat is made exclusively from full-grain leather, providing maximum close-contact feel without compromising stability.
Panels and back protection: the protective panels beneath the tree are removable and interchangeable using a high-strength Velcro system. They are available in 1 cm, 1.5 cm or 2 cm thicknesses (Panel Thickness) and in a range of colours. Each part of the outer covering can also be replaced individually in the event of wear.
